Builds are unsigned for now. Signing certificates cost money and Unbox is free, so your OS will complain the first time.
  • macOS — it may say the app is damaged. Run xattr -cr /Applications/Unbox.app once, then open it normally.
  • Windows — SmartScreen: More info → Run anyway.
  • Linux — chmod +x Unbox-*.AppImage, then run it.

Straight answers

Common questions about Unbox.

Is it actually free?

Yes. Unbox is free to download and use. You pay your model provider directly for the images you generate, at their list price. There is no Unbox account, subscription or credit pack.

Can you see my API keys or my images?

No. Keys are encrypted on your own machine and are sent only to the provider they belong to. Images are written to your disk. There is no Unbox server, and the app sends no telemetry.

What does it actually cost to run?

Whatever the model costs. Cheap models run at fractions of a cent per image; the premium ones are a few cents. The app shows the estimated cost before you generate.

Do I need to be technical?

No. Install it, follow the three-step wizard, paste one API key and type a prompt. No terminal, no npm, no Docker.

When is video coming?

Video is the next phase — text-to-video, image-to-video and first/last-frame control. Images come first and are getting the polish.
